What is Sports Massage? Sports massage is a healing technique that combines various massage techniques and assisted stretching. Treatments will vary based on your needs, activity level, the sport in question, and the level of athletic intensity. Each treatment is a different experience for each individual based on established goals and objectives. For example the needs of a weekend golfer will differ to the goals of a professional marathon runner. Here at Pure Performance I believe sports massage is more than a single session but rather an important part of your overall performance training program.
Pre-event massage can create a state of readiness in the muscles and tissues so that the athlete's performance can be optimized
Post-event sports massage focuses on rebalancing an athlete’s physically stressed body, traditional techniques center around lighter, smoother strokes that move toward the heart.
"Sports maintenance massage" is performed when an athlete has reduced his or her training schedule, is not competing, or during the athlete's "off-season." A sports maintenance massage works with an athlete's strength, flexibility, coordination, biomechanics, posture, stress patterns, scar tissue and existing injuries. It also allows the therapist and athlete to work together to create the greatest changes for the athlete.
